This is an easy camp dessert of Poached Apple Dumplings that uses pre-made flaky biscuits and fresh apples cooked in a sweet syrup. This cooking method creates a sweet and decadent dessert.
When cooking with sugar like this temperature control is key. At first, it may look like a long cook time but remember the cast iron is starting from cold so a lot of the initial heat is absorbed into heating the Dutch oven not the food.
After making this a few times you may want to try using different fruits, or spice it up a little with some additional spices in the syrup. Instead of using the caramel sauce try a butterscotch sauce or fresh dulce de leche, alternatively, skip the sauce and use a dessert rub or cinnamon sugar.
