It would be extremely hard to get flavorsome meals without the use of herbs and spices. These potent ingredients with just a pinch can have an endless influence on any recipe.

Herbs are the fresh small plants like bushes that typically are seed-bearing, without a woody stem. Examples include sage, rosemary, thyme, mint, dill, cilantro/coriander, and basil. Spices come from the seed, fruit, bark, or root of a plant. Examples include pepper, cinnamon, ginger, cumin, nutmeg, cloves, saffron, fennel, and cardamon.

Oftern these ingredients can be so influential in the final flavor of the recipes that the herb or spice makes it into the title of the dish. Some common examples are cinnamon rolls, cilantro-lime rice, mint sauce, basil pesto, lemon and thyme chicken, rosemary focaccia, and ginger snaps.
