Steamed Recipe Ideas

Steaming is, as the name suggests, cooking the food in the steam of water. This is popular for vegetables as it stops the flavor and nutrients from being leached out of the food.

It has advantages in the outdoor setting based on the two ways it works. The first is a small amount of water placed in with the food, typically vegetables or rice, then sealed with the lid. When cooked the water is absorbed or minimal and can be served, thus minimizing the amount of water that needs to be carried in.

The second is the food placed in a dish above boiling water where it is cooked. This is a great way of taking out the variables and hotspots of the fire and as such reducing the risk of burning the food.
