Corn (also known as maize) has a long heritage, especially in the indigenous cultures of southern Mexico. Since then it has grown to be a staple food in many countries around the world.
Corn is processed into a large variety of ingredients, each with a different use. Fresh corn can be eaten like a vegetable there is a range of corn but the most popular is sweetcorn. There is a range of dried corn products including cornmeal, cornflour, corn starch, grits, hominy, polenta, and popping corn. Also dehydrated and freeze-dried corn. There is also canned corn both in kernel form and a creamed form. Frozen corn is also available.
Corn is found in many meals typically as a carb component such as grits, cornbread, or corn tortillas. Corn is also used in tamales, fritter,s pancakes, corn dogs, and succotash.
