Hummus is an easy-to-make dip that is high in protein making it perfect for the outdoors whether at a picnic, on a hike, or camping. Once you have mastered this basic recipe then you can tweak it to your personal flavor preferences.
The foundation ingredient in hummus is chickpeas. These may be carried in cans already softened or dried with will need rehydrating and cooking before making the hummus. Both these options travel well for outdoor adventures.
Tahini is another key ingredient, this is basically ground sesame seeds. A little like how peanuts are ground down to make peanut butter. The other flavor ingredients are lemon and cumin.
This version is served plain but it may be served topped with olive oil, paprika, and/or sumac.
