Apple Spice Dump Cake

Cooked in a Dutch oven this apple spice dump cake is a quick and easy dessert option for the outdoors.

When making be careful to pick canned pie apples with no spice, as when combined with the spice cake it is too overpowering. The butterscotch chips offer a different flavor and texture to the cake and fruit.

When cooked there is a distinct fruit layer at the bottom and a fluffy cake layer on the top. This is similar to other popular camping apple desserts such as the apple cobbler, crumble, and buckle.

Ingredients

can pie apples

1 spice cake mix

1 can sprite

1/2 cup butterscotch mini baking chips

Equipment

10 inch Dutch oven

baking paper

Recipe Directions

  1. Preheat the Dutch oven to 355 degrees F (180 degrees C).

  2. Make a paper lining for the Dutch oven using baking paper.

  3. Place in the paper lining in the preheated Dutch oven then add in order the canned pie apple, spice cake mix, and sprite. Lightly mix the cake mix with the sprite so there is no visible powder. Sprinkle with the butterscotch across the top of the dump cake.

  4. Bake the dump cake at 355 degrees F (180 degrees C) for 20 minutes or until cooked.

  5. Serve in scoops into a bowl and serve alone or with cream or ice cream.
