Steak Scallops and Vegetables

Steak, corn on the cob, and a cast iron skillet containing green beans and scallops, all cooking on a grill over hot coals.

It is way too easy to get over complicated when trying to cook outdoors. Food doesn’t need to be complicated, especially over live-fire where the natural smokes and caramelization from the charcoal do half the work.

John from Hog Shack in BC, Canada reminds us how simple and satisfying meat, scallops, and vegetables can be cooked over a grill.

Fresh ingredients are accompanied by only salt, pepper, and butter in this mouthwatering meal that can be cooked as easily in the backyard as it can on a campfire.

Ingredients

  • 2 cobs corn
  • 2 handfuls green beans
  • 2 steaks
  • 15 scallops
  • 1 tablespoon butter to taste
  • salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • charcoal grill
  • 10 inch skillet

Directions

  • Prepare the charcoal grill with a hot and medium side, then pre-heat the skillet.
  • Add the corn to the grill. Place the butter to melt in the skillet.
  • Add the green beans to the skillet. Salt and pepper the steak, then start cooking it.
  • Turn the steak when brown on one side. Turn the corn making sure it is cooking evenly. Move the beans to one side then add the scallops.
  • As items finish cooking move to the cool side of the grill. The trick is to get the meat cooked to your preferred doneness at the same time the scallops are ready. Be careful as scallops are easy to overcook.
