Quick and Easy Rolls

Sometimes you just want quick and easy rolls that don’t need yeast or sourdough and their associated time. This is a simple rising agent roll.

Simple recipes like this work really well while cooking in the outdoors to give you fresh bread without the associated hassle and time.

The mayonnaise is an odd ingredient but often can make its way into simplified recipes like this where there are no eggs as it is easier to transport and store. Surprisingly there is no impact on the taste and if you don’t tell people it is there they will never guess.

Ingredients

2 cups self-rising flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1 cup milk

2 tablespoons mayonnaise, such as Miracle Whip salad dressing

Equipment

bowl

baking tray

Recipe Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients and chill for 15 minutes.

  2. Preheat the camp oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Tip: A camp oven includes gas ovens, closed BBQ, smokers, and similar.

  3. Flour a bench and your hands and roll into 12 balls.

  4. Place on a greased baking tray close together, they will expand into each other when cooking to create a batch style roll. Alternatively, leave a larger gap to get more traditional rolls.

  5. Bake in the preheated oven until brown, about 15 minutes.

Tip: For a glossy top brush with melted butter when you remove them from the oven.
