Philly Cheese Steak

Philly cheese steak is super tasty and a great lunch option for the BBQ, especially when camping. Marinated steak, veggies and cheese are served in a roll.

This is my version of the American Philly Cheese Steak (sometimes also called a Philly Steak or Cheesesteak). Basically, it is meat marinated in garlic and soy sauce with cooked vegetables combined in a roll with cheese melted on top. It is super tasty and a great option for the BBQ, especially when camping.

A favorite while camping it is easy to cook on a BBQ griddle for larger numbers, or in a skillet if just cooking for the family.

Ingredients

1 green bell pepper

1 red bell pepper

1 onion

600g steak of choice

3 tablespoons oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons soy sauce

4 bread rolls

4 slices American cheese, halved

Equipment

BBQ griddle or hot plate

large spatula

Recipe Directions

  1. Cut the bell peppers and onion into thin slices.

  2. Gently cook the bell peppers and onions on a BBQ griddle/hotplate until softened.

  3. Thinly slice the steak, then combine in a bowl with the oil, garlic, and soy sauce to season.

  4. Quickly cook the steak on the BBQ hotplate until just browned.

  5. Combine the vegetables and meat, then form in a line that will fit in the bread roll. Place the halved cheese slice on top.

  6. Cover with the roll until the cheese has started to melt and the roll is slightly warmed through.

  7. Using a large spatula, slide under the whole roll, meat and vegetables, and carefully flip the roll over. Serve immediately.
