Honey Glazed Smoked Ham

This recipe is sponsored by Gateway Drum Smokers

This honey glazed smoked ham process adds an additional layer of flavor to a ready-to-eat cooked ham, along with some BBQ flavor highlights. The extra time is well spent.

The glaze is a simple version that has a single application, but if so inclined it can be basted over the ham multiple times while cooking to build up a thicker, shinier layer with more flavor.

As the ham is already cooked and ready to eat the cooking time is more around heating to a safe serving temperature for a hot dinner. It is perfect for celebrations such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

Directions

  • Preheat the smoker to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  • Place the whole ham directly on the grill grates and cook for 3 hours turning every 30 minutes. Alternately cook until the internal temperature is 135 degrees F (57 degrees C).
  • Remove the ham from the smoker and place it in the foil pan. Make diagonal cuts across the ham about an inch (2 ½ cm) apart to create a diamond pattern.
  • Rub into the ham the Dijon mustard, then brown sugar, drizzle with the honey, and finally, sprinkle with the BBQ rub. In the base of the pan add the apple juice.
  • Return the seasoned ham back into the smoker and cook for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Remove the ham and rest for 30 minutes before serving.
