Grilling vegetables all alone just doesn’t seem right, so wrapping them in bacon is always a tasty solution. These green beans also get a boost from a simple glaze.
1poundfresh green beans such as haricot vert or snake green beans, stems removed
1/4cupolive oil
salt and pepperto taste
6slicesbaconcut in half
Equipment
mesquite grill wood
12 wooden toothpicks, soaked
Directions
Light the mesquite grill wood. Once glowing, allow the grill to reach medium heat of 350 to 450 degrees F (177 to 232 degrees C).
Glaze
For the glaze, whisk together the BBQ sauce, sugar, red pepper flakes, and garlic in a heavy, grill-proof saucepan. Place at the back of the grill over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has melted.
To Cook
Toss the green beans in the oil, then season with salt and pepper.
Wrap 5 to 6 beans with a half slice of bacon, creating a bundle. Place bundles, seam side-down on a tray. Continue this process until you have made 12 bundles. Secure each bundle with a wooden toothpick. Set aside.
Place the bacon-wrapped bean bundles onto the preheated grill. Grill the bundles for 10 to 15 minutes, turning frequently. After the first 5 minutes start to baste them with the BBQ glaze. Remove from the heat when the bacon begins to char at the edges. Serve 2 warm bundles per guest.
